Wickham History Society: Annual Report 2024 – 2025

Membership is now 147 (124 2023/4) and 629 people have attended our nine meetings, including 40 visitors. Meetings have remained very well attended again this year with the average attendance being 71. Five summer visits were laid on in 2024 to accommodate the increased interest. These included two guided walks around Portsmouth, a visit to the medieval village at Woodham, a visit to the D-Day Map room and Military Police Museum at Southwick and a Ramble around Hamble and these were all fully booked. Our main projects have been the digitisation and cataloguing over 1000 slides and glass plate negatives and printing a new edition of Bruce Tappenden’s History Of Wickham, updated with new information and a chapter covering the period from 1996 to 2024. A hundred copies have been sold so far. Our oral history team have interviewed five local people for their memories of Wickham too. Financially the Society made a small deficit of £13, with an end of year balance of £3,288, of which £1,625 is ear marked for publications and exhibitions.

The new Committee are:

Chair: Geoff Phillpotts; Secretary: Vanessa Burlingham; Treasurer: Martin Rogers; Website Editor (and Talks Programme Secretary): Jane Painter; Sarah Daley (Oral History).
